Biography

Andrew Gregg Curtin served as the 26th Governor of Pennsylvania from 1861 to 1865, a tenure marked by his energetic support of the Union cause during the Civil War. A Republican, Curtin mobilized Pennsylvania's considerable resources for the war effort and earned a reputation as one of the most effective war governors. After leaving office, he served in Congress and later as Minister to Romania, remaining an influential figure in Pennsylvania politics throughout his life.
