Biography

Constantino Brumidi was an Italian-American artist renowned for his monumental frescoes and decorative paintings in the United States Capitol Building. Immigrating to America in the 1850s, Brumidi dedicated much of his career to embellishing the Capitol with neoclassical and allegorical scenes celebrating American history and ideals. His most famous work includes the Apotheosis of Washington in the Capitol Dome, a masterpiece of American artistic achievement that remains one of the most recognizable images in the building.
