1818–1898

Biography

Don Carlos Buell was a Union general who commanded the Army of the Ohio during the American Civil War. He played a crucial role in the Western Theater, particularly in the Kentucky Campaign and at the Battle of Shiloh, where his timely arrival helped prevent a Union defeat. Though respected for his organizational abilities and strategic thinking, Buell's cautious approach sometimes drew criticism, and he was eventually relieved of command in 1862.
