Biography
Fitz John Porter was a prominent Union general during the American Civil War, serving with distinction in the Army of the Potomac. Born into a military family, he graduated from West Point and participated in the Mexican-American War before the Civil War began. Porter commanded the Fifth Corps and was known for his tactical acumen, though his military career became controversial following his role in the Second Battle of Bull Run in 1862.
