General George Armstrong Custer was a prominent Union cavalry officer during the American Civil War, known for his aggressive tactics and rapid advancement through the ranks. Following the war, he continued his military career on the frontier, leading cavalry units in campaigns against Native American tribes. His controversial legacy encompasses both his military achievements and the controversial Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876, where he and his regiment were defeated by Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho forces.
