Biography

George H. Thomas was one of the most accomplished Union generals of the Civil War, earning the nickname 'The Rock of Chickamauga' for his steadfast defense at that crucial battle. A native of Virginia who remained loyal to the Union, Thomas commanded the Army of the Cumberland and was instrumental in securing Union victories in the Western Theater. His strategic acumen and unwavering determination made him one of Grant's most trusted commanders.
