Biography
George Pendleton was an influential American politician and diplomat from Ohio who served in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate during the Civil War and Reconstruction eras. Initially a War Democrat who supported the Union cause, Pendleton later became associated with the Democratic Party's conservative wing and ran as the party's vice-presidential candidate in 1864. Following his political career, he served as Minister to Germany and later as a railroad commissioner, remaining active in public service throughout his life.
