Goldwin Smith

Biography

Goldwin Smith was a Canadian historian, journalist, and political commentator of the nineteenth century. Born in England and educated at Oxford University, Smith emigrated to Canada where he became a prominent intellectual voice on issues of Canadian confederation, imperial relations, and social reform. He founded the Canadian Monthly and National Review and was known for his liberal political views and prolific writings on history and contemporary affairs.
