Biography
Gustave Paul Cluseret was a French-born military officer and socialist who served as a general during the American Civil War and later played a prominent role in the Paris Commune. He fought for the Union Army, commanding infantry units and gaining a reputation as an aggressive tactician. After the Civil War, Cluseret returned to France where he became involved in radical political movements and served as a general during the Commune of 1871.
