Biography
Hiram Barney was an American lawyer and Republican politician who served as a U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York during the Civil War era. He was known for his anti-slavery activism and his efforts to enforce federal law during the Reconstruction period. Barney was also involved in various reform movements and served in several appointed federal positions under Republican administrations.
