Biography
Horace Greeley was an influential American newspaper editor and politician who founded and edited the New-York Tribune, one of the most important newspapers of the 19th century. A prominent Republican and abolitionist, Greeley was known for his reformist views and his famous phrase 'Go West, young man.' He ran for president in 1872 as the Liberal Republican and Democratic candidate, though he was defeated by incumbent Ulysses S. Grant.
