J. Knipe

Biography

Joseph Knipe was a Pennsylvania-born Union general who served throughout the American Civil War. He commanded infantry divisions in the Western Theater and participated in campaigns including the Atlanta Campaign under General William Tecumseh Sherman. Knipe was known for his steady leadership and was breveted major general for his service during the war.
