Biography
John Minor Botts was a prominent Virginia politician and Whig Party leader who served in the U.S. House of Representatives during the antebellum period. He was known for his oratorical skills and his efforts to preserve the Union during the sectional crises of the 1850s. Botts remained a moderate voice in Virginia politics, opposing secession even as the state moved toward the Confederacy.
