John Anthony Quitman (1798-1858) was an American military officer, planter, and politician from Mississippi. He served as Governor of Mississippi and was a prominent figure in Southern politics before the Civil War. Quitman was known for his expansionist views and involvement in filibustering expeditions to Cuba, reflecting the aggressive foreign policy ambitions of some Southern politicians during the 1850s.
