Biography
John Sedgwick was one of the most respected and capable Union generals of the American Civil War, known for his steady leadership and tactical competence. A career officer with extensive military experience, Sedgwick commanded the VI Corps of the Army of the Potomac with distinction in numerous major engagements. Beloved by his troops for his calm demeanor and tactical acumen, he was killed in action at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House in 1864, mourned as one of the Union's finest military leaders.
