Laura Keene was a prominent English-American actress and theatre manager who became one of the most successful women in 19th-century American theatre. She emigrated to the United States in the 1850s and quickly established herself as a talented performer in both dramatic and comedic roles. Keene is perhaps best remembered for her management of Laura Keene's Theatre in New York, where she produced numerous successful productions and championed the work of contemporary playwrights.
