Philip Henry Sheridan was one of the Union Army's most celebrated cavalry commanders during the American Civil War. Rising from humble Irish immigrant origins, Sheridan demonstrated exceptional tactical skill and aggressive leadership that earned him promotion to Major General and command of the Army of the Potomac's cavalry corps.
