Biography
Samuel Freeman Miller was an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court who served from 1862 until his death in 1890. Originally trained as a physician before turning to law, Miller was appointed to the Court by President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War era. He authored numerous important decisions and was particularly influential in shaping Reconstruction-era jurisprudence and the interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment.
