Biography

Solomon Foot was a Vermont politician who served in the United States Senate during the mid-19th century. A Republican and strong Union supporter, Foot represented Vermont's interests during the critical pre-Civil War and Civil War periods. He was known for his conservative fiscal policies and his advocacy for Vermont's agricultural and commercial interests in national politics.
