Biography
Thomas Leonidas Crittenden was a Union general during the American Civil War who gained prominence for his command of the XXI Corps at the Battle of Chickamauga in 1863. Born into a prominent Kentucky political family, Crittenden served with distinction in the Mexican-American War before the Civil War erupted. Though his military record was solid, he remained somewhat overshadowed by more celebrated commanders and spent his later years in diplomatic and administrative posts.
