Biography
John Jordan Crittenden was a prominent Kentucky politician and statesman who served in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives across multiple decades. He was known for his efforts to preserve the Union during the sectional crisis of the 1850s, most notably through the Crittenden Compromise of 1860, which attempted to resolve disputes over slavery's expansion. Despite his compromise efforts, Crittenden remained a respected figure in American politics and served as Attorney General under two presidents.
