Biography

The Honorable Theodore Frelinghuysen was a prominent New Jersey politician and statesman who served in the U.S. Senate and as Mayor of Newark. A member of the Whig Party and later the Republican Party, he was known for his advocacy of temperance and moral reform. Frelinghuysen was also active in religious and philanthropic causes throughout his long public career.
